Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology
Katherine Ally Zaslavsky is a writer, interviewer, and researcher who studies the value, power, and violence behind representation in media and politics. They run the Representation in Media lab, which aims to expose and understand the relationships between offscreen and onscreen diversity in television. Katherine also works with varyCSS, a collective that advocates for diversity in computational social science, and Hate is a Virus, a nonprofit that mobilizes resources to support local AAPI organizations for abolition. In their free time, they run Minefield: Secret Lives of Brown Artists, a podcast that tells Middle Eastern, North African, and South Asian (MENASA/SSWANA) artists' stories of identity and representation.
